Situation Today
In the pharmary industry product counterfeiting constitutes a serious and ever-growing problem for legally correct acting companies and owners of intellectual property.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that approximately 10% of all drugs are forged.
As a consequence, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recommended the RFID technology to protect consumers. California's law requires pharmaceuticals to be identified with a unique serial number at item level. They also have to be tracked from the time they are produced to the time they are distributed to customers. Pharmaceutical companies need solutions for above requirements to make the whole supply chain more efficient and transparent.
Solution
RF-iT Solutions has developed a continous product solution for local packaging lines to initially capture item serial numbers as well as the hierarchy of case/pallet serial numbers. The solution supports the 2D barcode as well as RFID. The solution is fully EPCIS compliant and offers a technology insurance. The customer has the possibility to start with 2D barcodes and can migrate easily to RFID later.
You-R® PHARMA is based on the established integration and solution building platform You-R® OPEN. RF-iT's system integration partner can customize You-R® PHARMA modules to fulfill customers' needs and integrate those into their system.
